Wedding Insurance: Something most couples don’t think about investing in when planning their big day.

When hurricane Irene surprised the East coast the weekend of August 28th, many couples were forced to postpone their wedding, leaving people with a loss of non-refundable deposits for services associated with the wedding.

According to an article posted by the Long Island Press, wedding insurance is a must have in today’s society. Wedding insurance usually covers lost deposits, venue movements, location rentals, catering services, property and equipment rentals, and accommodations including travel arrangements and accommodations for a honeymoon if applicable.

In addition, most policy’s cover if the wedding needs to be postponed or cancelled for a covered reason (including but not limited to natural disasters such as earthquakes of hurricanes, vendor bankruptcy, illness and military deployment), lost wedding rings, damage to special wedding attire, vendor no-shows, lost or damaged photography, videography, and wedding gifts.

According to the article, the average cost of a wedding in the US is approximately $24,000, and significantly higher for the NYC/Long Island areas. For an event costing that much money, investing in wedding insurance, which can be as low as $110, is a no-brainer.
